Track Title: Chemistry
Written by EV Borman
Performed here by Atom & EV and the Bad Apples
(Vocals & Bass Guitar: EV, Guitar: Andy Borman, and Drums: Terry "Bad Apples" McIntyre)

This song, about love and inevitable cellular decay, was probably my first real "rock" song, and was originally written for a secondary band project with a different guitarist that didn't work out. At that time, Atom & EV was a little more mellow and jazzy sounding, so this song, Chemistry wasn't a great fit, but over time we've evolved to have a slightly more rock sound, so I brought it out a couple years ago for us, and this is the result.

I write all songs from the bass guitar, and this one began as plinky noodling on the D-string that sounded a little Morse-code-esque.The vocal melody and chord progression came in second around the same time, but I lyrically started with the bridge, which I wanted to be about sex and science. The chord progression from the bridge was mostly dictated by the lyric meter, and is still one of my favorite little bridges in any song I've written. The first verse writing felt strong enough that it repeats again at the end, and to reiterate the idea of pairing, Andy basically does the exact same little guitar solo twice in a row after the bridge. The words have always evoked sexy scientists finding romance at a bar to me, but draw your own conclusions.

The recording process was a little complicated: we paid a friend to record six tracks in a home studio, and while the drum tracks were good, we were unhappy with the guitar, bass, and vocal recordings, which we recently threw out and re-tracked at our own house on our own recording equipment. So the drums were recorded 18 months ago in a different part of town, and all the rest was done this year at the Chateau Virago in Oak Cliff. Not entirely ideal, but it's a start. We
are currently using Propellerhead's Reason (version 8) software for mixing on a PC at our place.

Lyrics:
Got an insatiable chemistry: no matter what, we do and we die.
Never get enough of you and me; truth is the rest of the world is a lie.

I'm dancing on the edge of a glass jar; you're swimming on the inside.
Swirl it around to test the reaction. Now come together and then divide.

I've got a formula to figure it out, writing it all down on your skin.
Let's stick with the facts that we know: humans created the concept of sin.
