Most likely recorded at the kitchen table. Probably on my phone or a little Tascam recorder gizmo. My money is on the latter - it’s got that mystical “Tascam” sounds (that’s a joke, but it does have a mystical “kitchen” sound). The song originated as an improvisation during soundcheck at a recording session ages ago. I started riffing on the chords (C, G and F - real challenging stuff), the band joined in and I started carrying on about a guy named Gary whose “love is on fire.” The shape of the song happened naturally (the come-down chorus for instance) so hats off to Earl Darling and Dave Prez.

Everybody liked it a lot (the engineer thought it was actually a complete song) so I did nothing with it for about five years. As one does. I finally dug it out in 2017 and spent a month or so writing and re-writing (and re-writing) lyrics. Added a bridge and intro/outro. I like it, though there is one word I’m still struggling with.

As one does.
